5 June 2010: Gone Fishin'

I was in Gloucester, MA for a graduation party and stopped by to see the Gorton's fisherman. Gloucester is the oldest seaport and still a hub for fishing. If you saw the movie, The Perfect Storm, Gloucester is the port that is portrayed. It is a beautiful place and had been far to long since I had been there! 27 December 2009 Photo(s): The Ocean House

All the snow melted in Westerly overnight so Bill and I took a ride down to the beach. It was a beautiful (but cold) day. We wandered around Watch Hill, Misquamicut and Weekapaug.

I was happy to see The Ocean House rebuild in the final stages. The Ocean House was one of my favorite places when I was growing up. I used to go there when it was closed in the winter and sit on the porch to think and reflect. The Ocean House was built in the mid 1800's and torn down a few years ago because it was in such disrepair. They rebuilt it so that the outside of it looks almost identical to the original. It is one place I would like to stay before I die! Every time I look at it, I see the people of the late 1800's and early 1900's enjoying their days by the ocean. You can see what the old one looked like here: http://www.pbase.com/mybigboy/image/55932290

Today is 09/09/09 and at 09:09:09 AM I was hanging out with my best friend in Newport, RI. What better way to spend the morning of this special day. Here are a couple pictures from later in the day when the sun decided to show itself to help celebrate.

The ocean...the sea...crashing waves...sunrises...sunsets...sand beneath my feet..warm sun on my face...HOME!

Anytime I am near the ocean, I feel at home. Whether it is in Westerly, RI or on the other side of the globe, just seeing the water makes me feel at ease. Undoubtedly, if I could live anywhere, it would be on the ocean. Not near the ocea
n but on it. Hear the waves crash in the morning is musical and powerful. I live near a small lake now but it is not the same. No waves...no smell of stinky seaweed...no salt in the air.

I put up two photos today taken in Newcastle, NH. The one below I played with in terms of the focus but the one above is pretty much how I saw it this morning.
