Fountain? Bidet? Nothing like a functional lawn art. This is a sight we saw in Connecticut and I had to turn around to go take a picture of it.
I have driven by this dome many times in my life and always assumed it was some kind of church or cultural building. I was very surprised when I started doing some research on it that it was the home of the Colt Firearms Manufacuturer. When I drove by it yesterday, I finally decided to figure out where to get closest to it to photograph it. You can read more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colt_Armory
Captured this picture out of my car window while driving through Hartford - AKA the insurance city!
If I haven't mentioned it before, Bill loves castles. We had some time on our drive to RI so I brought him by Gillette's Castle in Hadlyme, CT. I haven't been there in probably 20 years and unfortunately because I am still unsteady on the foot, I walked as much as possible but let Bill go explore the castle on his own. This castle was built by William Gillette who is most famous for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes. http://www.friendsofgillettecastle.org/about_us.asp Oh and by the way...the cast is off but I still have a walking cast. Still annoying but at least I can take it off to drive and shower! Always look on the bright side...
On our way to RI today, Bill and I stopped by the place where we got married almost 4 years ago. Our wedding was in a truly idyllic setting at the Branford House in Avery Point, CT overlooking Long Island Sound. It was practically perfect in every way!The photograph below is taken at our wedding by our friend Shai. He is an amazing photographer. Check out his stuff at http://www.shaiphoto.com/
While I was driving to my meeting today, I passed through Mystic, CT. I grew up only 10 miles from here and I'm always amazed when I get back to the area and realize what an idyllic community I had the pleasure of living in during my childhood. This photo is taken in the downtown Mystic area looking toward Mystic Seaport. Another wonderful place to visit if you are ever in the area...great little specialty stores, art galleries and scenery!
