28 July 2010: The Party's Over

My niece came to stay with us for a few days and today was the day I had to drive her home. She did great and only cried one night for her daddy. We had a full 3 days with photo shoots, playing at the beach, going to the playground, walking through the sunflower maze, painting, games, books...I was exhausted. However, my favorite part was when she would come downstairs in the morning (because she was an "early riser") and give me hugs and kisses! She is such a great kid and has been through so much in her short 6 years. She is growing up soooo fast and I can't stand it.

We left before 8am to start our trek back to Springfield. She was up at 6:45AM and hung out for a bit and look one final picture (taken with the iphone) because we realized she didn't take any pictures with Mona. She loves Mona and Mona loved all the attention, extra treats and belly rubs. We weren't in the car an hour and she said, I am going to take a little nap so my last picture of her visit was her sleeping in the car cruising on the NY Thruway! I think I have a similar picture from last year's trek home. I had to listen to Flo rida all by myself - it is much more fun singing "apple bottom jeans...boots with the fur" with my little munchkin!

2 June 2010: Chillin' Like A Villain

Awwww...ain't she cute?!?! Mona decided that if everyone else gets to sit in a comfy chair under the gazebo, then she should be able to as well!

5 March 2010: Snow Dog

Mona doesn't always quite get that she is not a teacup dog that can walk on top of the icy topped snow. Bill dug out a path for her to "do her business" but she insists on exploring further and falling through the snow!

6 February 2010: Pretty Puppy

OK...the last one was done with photos I took last week that I just by chance had multiple exposures of but today's HDR was taken this morning. I learned how to automatically bracket on my camera and Mona was my test subject. She would not stay still at first and then Bill suggested peanut butter. Whenever Bill has a peanut butter sandwich, Mona sits perfectly still hoping for him to share it. Here is my pretty puppy in all her HDR glory!

12 January 2010: Chillaxin'

Mona had not made an appearance this year so I figured it was time...still cute as ever as she chillaxes in her memory foam bed!

29 December 2009 Photo: Footprints On My Heart

The snow has returned and we picked up Mona at the dog sitter's yesterday. She had a good Christmas but is not so thrilled with the snow. Her poor little paws get so cold because she is one of those dogs that does not have much fur on the bottom of her feet. We may have to buy her some little booties.

20 December 2009 Photo: Our Newest Family Members

Now, Dasher! Now Dancer! Now, Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! On, Cupid! On, Donder and Blitzen!

Don't they look real...well, besides being super small. It's the new mini-deer! We saw these cute deer in the store and decided they needed to come live with us. Mona is not so sure how she feels about the newest family members. First thing she did was smell their butts. I think she was offended that they didn't sniff hers in return.

3 December 2009 Photo(s) & Video: The Pillow Thief

So after a 15 hour day yesterday, I decided I was too tired to drive all the way home. I stopped in MA at a Holiday Inn & Suites at 10PM, crutched in to see if they had a room...checked in, went to my room, called Bill and fell asleep after watching Criminal Minds. Slept straight through until 6AM (late for me, if you know me), got up, washed up (didn't even take a shower or take the complimentary shampoo) and was out of the room before 7AM, grabbed breakfast and checked out. I even returned the key to the desk because there was a message posted on the desk when I checked in that said "Please return the key to the desk or leave it in the room. New technology is expensive." The key was the new fangled wave it in front of the door and it opens deals.

So...fast forward to returning home at 10:30AM after making my way through driving rain. Happy to be home, I unpacked the car (while on crutches) and started doing some follow up from my school visit yesterday. At 11:39AM I received call, since the phone was in the other room, I could not get to it in time to answer it. And how happy I am about that because now you can listen to the message. Thanks to Bill for doing the video.

In full disclosure...this is not a picture of that hotel in question and I have edited out her name and number to protect the not so tactful GM.

I was LIVID. Really did she just call me a PILLOW THIEF???? And tell me she was going to report me to the authorities??? I told the General Manager when I called her back that I had no idea what she was talking about and that I did not steal her 4 "soft" pillows. I explained to her that I arrived at 10PM last night and did not leave the room until I checked out at 7AM. I saw her at the front desk when I left and asked her is she remembered the person leaving on crutches. She said she did. I said did you see any pillows on me. All I had was a backpack with my computer and toiletry bag. She said, I don't know what to tell you. Wait, maybe I threw them out the window and drove around back to pick them up. Now, I know I am soft and fluffy and I wish I could blame my extra fluffiness on 4 "soft" pillows stuffed down my pants but alas, I cannot tell a lie - it is just me.

I asked her if she checked to see how many times I entered the room? I know she can do this because the "new technology" allows you to check a log to see entrances. I just watched Criminal Minds and they did it last night. Wait...maybe they could see I watched that show and that is why she called me a pillow thief! HMMMM!!!!

Anyway, I said I didn't take your pillows and I don't know why they had disappeared and maybe she needed to get new glasses or double check her new fangled fancy technology. I also informed her that if this charge is added to my bill there will be a problem. She said "fine"...WHAT?? what does that mean. She told me she can't promise me anything. I said you are the GM, who is going to make that decision??? She said she would have to investigate it further and I said I would appreciate a call back when she is done with her investigation.... No word back yet - I have Garcia, Hotch and the gang on speed dial (sub-reference to Criminal Minds for those who don't watch that show).

So I have taken some pictures of the pillows in my house and if said hotel spots one of their "soft" pillows, please feel free to come pick it up. As I was taking one of the pictures, Mona stepped in front of the pillows...she likes "soft" pillows and she looks kind of guilty. Maybe I will send in her paw prints into the authorities so she can be cleared or accused as deemed appropriate.

30 November 2009 Photo: Just Another Manic Monday Mona

She doesn't look very manic in this picture but just say the words, "outside" or "treat" or "pizza" and she will start hopping around like a bunny.

2 November 2009 Photo: Senior Portrait

It's that time of year that senior portraits are being taken at high schools and colleges across the land. Mona is getting up there in age so I thought it was time for her to get hers taken too. I can't believe she is going to be 10 years old in February. She was just a little peanut when I got her from the farmers market and now she is a big baby who still likes to sleep on top of me.

4 July 2009 Photo(s): Yankee Doodle Doggie

Happy Birthday America! My very patriotic puppy insisted on being the photo of the day and since she was singing Stars And Stripes Forever while posing in front of the flag, I had to accommodate.
Later in the night we walked across the street to our neighbors to see the Ring of Fire. This is a yearly tradition the lakefront homes do every Fourth of July using flares. The rockets red glare bursted in air while we were watching as well. All in all a good birthday celebration!

Can't you just hear Mona whining..."It's my toy. Give iT BACK!!!!! Please. You told me we were going to play fetch." I just love that look on her big goofy head!

13 May 2009 Photo: Outfoxed Again

Ok so I am obsessed with our fox family. I look for them every time I drive down the road behind our house. Slowing down, doing u-turns, peering past the train tracks and looking on the logs has become a daily event. I have seen them several times now and even saw the babies feeding from the mom. I could not get a picture of that because it was 5:30AM and the light was terrible. But I did capture this photo of the mama and one of the babies. This baby is staring at me! I have seen at least 4 babies together now. Mona still knows something is living up there but luckily there has not been any problems and we are making sure that she does not get too close.

2 May 2009 Photo: How Do You Solve A Problem Like Mona

Mona has not made an appearance in blog for a while so I figured it was time for another installment of her especially after we watched Marley and Me last night. And yes, by the end of the movie, I was bawling!

She was lying quietly in her bed and when I got out of the shower, I threw my towel on top of her and she just stayed there. After a couple minutes, she finally poked her head out and started singing like Julie Andrews...the hills are alive with the sound of music... Ok, maybe not but doesn't she look like she has a nun's habit on?

28 March 2009 Photo: Dog and Cat Tails

Mona, Bill and I went for a walk this morning down to the park. It is a warm day today and the lake is finally all thawed. Mona went in and took her first dip of the season but it only last a few seconds because I imagine the water is still pretty cold.

The cat tails are spreading their seeds and getting ready for the new season to begin. So as not be to outdone by the cat, Mona also felt the need to spread her seeds all over the park as well by marking her territory.

17 January 2009 Photo: Watching You...ALWAYS Watching You

I have been playing with some new camera equipment I got a couple days ago. This is the macro lens. You can also see me reflected in Mona's eye so I guess it is a self portrait. Anyway, Mona does not quite get the concept that she is not a lap dog. She is not allowed on the couch but sometimes (especially when it is cold) I let her up to keep me warm...this is her chillin' on my chest.
